The Idoma Forum, Jos, a branch of the well-known development-focused Idoma National Forum on Saturday, 17th November, rolled  out the red carpets for those it views as heroes of development in Idoma land in particular and Nigeria in general as they were honored with Awards of Excellence as symbols of recognition and encouragements for their invaluable contributions to national development. The event took place at ASSU Secretariat, University of Jos Permanent site.

The array of Awardees, all of them shining stars in their various areas of life-endeavors glowed with pride and obvious appreciation, while those who were unavoidably absent were represented by close family members or associates.

The Guest Speaker at the occasion, Engr Dr. Alexander Okopi Momo who is also the President of Idoma National Forum lamented the underdevelopment of Idoma nation which, according to him, has suffered undeserved socio-economic and political abandonment in Benue state for more than  three decades of the state’s existence. He called for unity and personal sacrifice amongst the elites of Idoma land as that is the only avenue through which the nation can wriggle itself free from the chocking grip of all-embracing underdevelopment Idoma peoples enemies have subjected them to in the past, and which will be extended into the future if left un-tackled. Acknowledging the fact that Idoma nation has witnessed noticeable improvements in the areas of appointments into important and tasking federal government positions and infrastructural development project allocation in recent times, the Guest Speaker insisted that what Idoma nation certainly does not have is time to waste. Concluding his speech which was eloquently presented on his behalf by Professor Ugo Alubo to a long and standing ovation, he called for the creation of Apa state as the only avenue through which Idoma people all over the world would be given the sense of belonging they need to mobilize behind Nigeria and move the nation forward.

Earlier, in his welcome address, chairman of Idoma Forum, Jos, Dr. Sylvanus Okpe called on all Idoma sons and daughters in positions of high authority anywhere, but particularly the awardees to please do every thing within the ambits of the law to offer the ballooning millions of Idoma youths their powerful hands out of the vast pit of unemployment they have been pushed into while also emphasizing that the creation of Apa state is the most viable way forward for Idoma nation and Nigeria as a whole.

  2. We enjoin other Idoma groups and friends of Idoma to join hands together to actualize Apa State. We should also imbibe the spirit of ‘each one help one’ to empower our teeming jobless youths.

    Great move this reception is!
My disappointment is the absence of many of the recipients. However, I see events like this as times of reckoning. What did I do with the opportunity, did i touch lives, did i help other idomas or my micro family alone? If just getting into an office, it will be the time of declaring my desire and intentions for my people the Idomas! How much of these came out of this exercise is left to our post Mortem analysis. How ever I join all IFJ members in congratulating the deserving recipients, especially, my dear unrelenting Prof Godwin Akpa. Thank you.
